Random dispatches from the island.

Things are kind of ridiculously amusing right now. It always makes me
laugh when I sort of know everyone's secrets and how they're
needlessly complicating their lives by imbuing everything with drama
and secrets and complicated thought processes about shit that is just
easy and simple and straightfoward. One day maybe they'll figure it
out. Until then I can lie back and watch the show.

Let's see, what else. I posted my first missed connection ever this
week, which I seriously find fucking amusing. I crack myself up.
Garrett and I have come up with a brilliant plan to show the world
just how awesome we are. It involves two of our favorite pasttimes:
drinking and having epic hilarious conversations. I'm excited.

I'm back at work today. It's a little fun and a little annoying, just
like every other day really.

Midnight Meat Train

(6:01:44 PM) Marie: i can't figure out if i like this movie or not
(6:02:04 PM) Chris: is there gore and titties?
(6:02:26 PM) Marie: no titties
(6:02:30 PM) Marie: lots of gore
(6:02:59 PM) Marie: kind of shitty effects but i can't tell if it was purposefully done that way or not
(6:13:41 PM) Marie: oh wait now there's some titties
(6:13:56 PM) Chris: then it is indeed a good movie

Oh the sunset....

So I went on a little tour of my neighborhood dive bars last night. The first two were kinda meh but the Silver Spur is the shit. I totally know where I'm drinking from now on, or at least when I only want to stumble a block and a half to get home.

Now something for your eyes and ears:

This song was playing at the Mucky Duck last night. I was incredibly confused by that, as anyone who has ever been to the Mucky Duck would be. There was an incredibly large man with an incredibly large head at the jukebox at the time and we did get a nice laugh out of picturing him seeing the Serge Gainsbourg on the jukebox and being like "Oh shit, I HAVE to play this!" I really like this song though.

And as an added bonus, here is the English language cover of it by Anita Lane and Nick Cave.

Absurdity is just about the only thing that makes sense to me anymore anyway.

Tonight, for the first time since I've lived in SF, I passed out drunk on the train and missed my stop. I ended up at 34th. Luckily there was another train going inbound in 3 minutes. Then I got home and took this test, and in my drunken state I find it all the more amusing. And incredibly true.

Your result for The Absurdism Test...

Happy Absurdist

You are 100% absurd!

You don't believe that life is ordered, pre-planned and meaningful. In fact, quite the opposite; you find it chaotic, random and essentially meaningless. But that doesn't stop you living it to the full.

It is likely that you have spent some time thinking about your place in the universe. You have revolted against blind faith and the hope for life after death and this has led you to realise that you are free to create your own meaning.

In touching the Absurd you have realised that human endeavour is ultimately futile; some people would find this outlook depressing but you have accepted it. Instead of worrying about your fate, you immerse yourself in the here and now and enjoy life in all its bizarre, random beauty. Good for you!

This is an A+ idea!

(9:08:23 PM) Marie: i'm debating posting a missed connection
(9:08:24 PM) Marie: ha
(9:08:33 PM) Chris: haha
(9:08:35 PM) Chris: do it
(9:08:46 PM) Marie: yeah but he was a business man
(9:08:48 PM) Marie: they worry me
(9:08:48 PM) Marie: ha
(9:09:00 PM) Chris: he'll want to take you to dave and busters
(9:09:05 PM) Chris: and get "wild"
(9:09:05 PM) Marie: hahaha
(9:09:12 PM) Marie: he looked exactly like jens lekman though!
(9:11:57 PM) Chris: just put in the mc that he can't talk and you'll bang while you play some jens lekman music
(9:12:07 PM) Marie: hahahaha

The Future is kind of amazing.

I just realized that I sent people drunken emails last night while in the back of a cab heading home from a bar at 2:30 in the morning. I really, REALLY should not have an iphone when I'm drunk. Now I can accomplish the drunken harassment trifecta (texting, dialing, emailing) all while in a cab, on the bus, sitting on a street corner, wherever!

So uh....sorry in advance. Ha.

4 for Friday! Except not really!

It's actually even better. I know I've been neglecting things the past few weeks, but in lieu of doing the random thing I'm going to post a bunch of songs that I've been going nuts for during my time of neglect.

Dead Man's Bones - My Body's a Zombie for You
Dead Man's Bones - Name in Stone
Dead Man's Bones - In the Room Where You Sleep
Fever Ray - When I Grow Up
Fever Ray - I'm Not Done
Fever Ray - If I Had a Heart
Ryan Adams - Harder Now That It's Over
Bonnie "Prince" Billy - You Are Lost
Of Montreal - The Past is a Grotesque Animal
The Knife - Pass This On (Dahlback & Dahlback Remix)
Magnetic Fields - Underwear

I think that's enough for now. There may be some more later, but right now I'm going to run around in the sun, hit up the Botanical Gardens and the sculpture garden at the De Young and generally enjoy my second day off.

Spontaneous After-Work Drinking Adventure!

Things got a little crazy Monday night. Went out drinking with some summer interns, some coworkers, and some random other people. Got home at 4 am. Woke up 20 minutes before I had to leave for work the next day. Then I ended up in the hospital due to completely unrelated issues. Ha. It was a rad time though.
I look like the awkward dyke in the corner. Ha.
The rest of the pictures live here.

Song of the night: Ryan Adams - Please Do Not Let Me Go

If the walls in the room could talk
I wonder to myself would they lie
It's like some kind of jail beams of light
Fall through the curtains onto the bed
I'm all alone now, I can do as I please
I don't feel like doing much of anything
True love ain't that hard to find
Not that you will ever know
Would you lay here for awhile?
Please, do not let me go
Please, do not let me go

You were sweet enough to sing,
Oblivious to melody
Red suitcase full of clothes
Washed up on a shore of memory
I'm all alone now and I feel just fine
I don't feel much like doing anything
True love ain't that hard to find
Not that either one of us will ever know
Would you lay here for awhile?
Please, do not let me go

Oh life...

So I was in the hospital yesterday. An old health problem decided to strike back when I wasn't looking. I'd rather not go into the details, but I'm good now. I had an endoscopy!

I just ate two steaks and a bowl of creamed spinach after not being able to keep food down for almost two days. I was starving and also anemic and all I could think about was eating a bloody steak. And hell yeah, made that happen. Ha.

I'm off for the next three days. I'm glad I feel better because I hate when my weekends get wasted.

Yay for Thursdays

So yesterday was awesome. First off, I got to work and this is the site that greeted us and a shit ton of tourists on our boat:
SDC11007
You'll really want to view the larger version of that. It's a seagull, dead and hung from a tree. It had swallowed some fishing line and then got caught up by it on a tree branch and was just there, hanging and spinning in the wind. One of the weirdest sights I've ever seen on the island.

Then around 2:30 they noticed at work that they can't find Logan's paycheck. They figure out that it's a Fort Mason and so they're going to let him leave 3 hours early, in order to go get it before Fort Mason closes. And somehow we parlayed this into me being able to leave with him. I don't really know how or why it worked, but it did. So we went to Fort Mason. In the best cab ever may I add. The driver was blasting Barry White, would not stop saying "Motherfucker", and drove like a madman. I couldn't stop laughing the whole way there. Then we get done, walk back to Red Jack, and I start drinking margaritas that consist of a pint of tequila with lime juice splashed on top. God bless bartenders that think I'm cute. Also a man named Gambit introduced himself to Logan. It was nerd-larious.

At some point Logan, Danielle, and I were contemplating going to Pier 39 to ride the "TURBO 4D RIDE!!!" but it seemed like a rip off. Then we just decided to go to Pier 39 anyway, with I think some intention of "finding Marie a Dutch boy". So we got to play drunk tourists! And take pictures of things!

SDC11019

We also went to a not very good Mexican restaurant, where the staff was very friendly and talked Logan into trying what turned out to be the best tequila I've ever tasted.

SDC11026
Pomegranate margarita! BOMB.
SDC11029
SDC11031

Then we walked back to Pier 39 and hung out with Sea Lions for a good long while. They all sounded like they had colds and it was awesome.
SDC11046
SDC11049

There were no hot Euro boys to be had that night, but it was still a great day. We got back to Embarcadero station, I hopped on the N, passed out several times on the way home, and made it safely back to bed where I passed the fuck out for real.

THEEND.

Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Where is the Puzzle.

"Bliss comes with conclusions", indeed.

It's fucking beautiful out here today.

I'm sort of convinced....

that having black hair gives me uber bitch face. But I'm gonna roll with it for a little while. I need to give my hair a rest from the red for a while.

I just like this one. My eyeballs look flat.

Fever Ray - Triangle Walks

Side project of Karin Dreijer Andersson from the Knife. I LOVE this song and video.

Janky!

I really like this picture:

I have a thing for pictures of myself where I'm making fucked up, janky faces. I couldn't tell you why.

Random spewing of things:

  • No winery this year! It sucks. Ross is really sick, I'm kind of sick, none of it worked out. All I want is some water and some nature and some sun and some alcohol and naps and running around almost naked. I don't think that's a lot to ask.
  • I'm broke as fuck for the next 4 or 5 days due to some unforseen circumstances. It's weird. I don't remember the last time I was broke. Ha. It's probably good for me to live through every once in a while.
  • The past month has introduced me to some pretty rad people. I'm stupid-happy about that.
