Kill me.

There will be no "4 for Friday" post this week because my sinuses are hurting so badly that it's making me nauseous. I am actually staying home in bed on a Friday night watching movies because of this. I will accept all gifts of icepicks gladly.

I've had the flu for the past week and some odd days and this is just the tail end of that I think. I just hope it didn't somehow leave me with a gnarly sinus infection.

I will possibly post some songs or something tomorrow to make up for it, depending on how I'm feeling and if/when I go out holiday gallivanting. In the mean time, you should check out my flickr. I recently bought a new camera and I couldn't be happier with it. The first day I had it I took 143 pictures. Ha.

Here's a random sampling to whet your appetite:

4 for Friday

1. Coil - Are You Shivering - From the album "Musick to Play in the Dark Vol. 1" it is absolutely that. This might be my favorite Coil track. To me their weirdness and darkness and theatricality and intricacies of sound are totally present and at their best here.
2. PJ Harvey - Happy and Bleeding - Old school PJ, before she got all polished and theatrical. I used to have quite the angsty time singing to this album.
3. Ryan Adams - Wonderwall - I never thought an Oasis song could sound good.
4. Iron & Wine - Sea and the Rhythm - My favorite Iron & Wine song. I could die to this.

6 for Saturday

So I was terribly busy running around adventuring yesterday and wasn't able to post my 4 for Friday, so to make up for that I'll post 6 for Saturday. That's two more for the price of nothing, my friends.
1. The Knife - Got 2 Let U
2. Coil - The Tenderness of Wolves
3. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Abattoir Blues
4. Combichrist - Sent to Destroy
5. H.I.M. - One Last Time
6. Death from Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine

4 for Friday

1. Neko Case - That Teenage Feeling - This song is sooo indicative of my life 8 or 9 months ago. It's my favorite song off of Fox Confessor Brings the Flood.
2. Tracey Thorn and Jens Lekman - Yeah! Oh Yeah! - This is a great cover of a great Magnetic Fields song. I love the idea of Jens singing Stephin Merritt. And Tracey (Everything But the Girl)sounds lovely as well.
3. Propagandhi - Gifts - This is one of their more "emo" songs, solely because John Samson is singing it. Well, the lyrics are pretty emo too. John Samson is just emo. Go listen to the Weakerthans if you don't believe me.
4. Whiskeytown - Turn Around (Alternate Version) - Oh Ryan Adams. You were such a little southern-accented rough voiced boy. (I think he was like 23 when this came out). I love it.

I saw Iron & Wine for free!

In fact it was the second time I've seen him for free (last year's Hardly Strictly being the other) but this was so much better because it was a very small secret show at a tiny record store and my friends and I were in the very front sitting at his feet. So amazing. Plus it happened the day after my birthday.
Here is a little video I took of Naked as We Came with my shitty digital camera:

Lickity-split update time

  • Sean Connery came to the island yesterday. Seriously. And I totally missed seeing or meeting him because that's apparently my fate at work.
  • I bought a new laptop. It's the first new computer I've ever bought, and the first brand new computer I've had since I was like 16. Here is a picture.
  • Logan, Logan's girlfriend Danielle, Robbie, and I, and assorted other Alcatrash, have begun a weekly drinking on Thursday thing, spawned from the original Traz-O-Rama, only now we get drunk and make collages. It's kind of fucking amazing. Pictures are here. More get added weekly.
  • We are gonna start an Alcatraz blog, about the ridiculous shit that happens on the island. I will keep you all posted on when that goes up. Until then, you can entertain yourself with the Alcatraz Island Twitter feed, run by our own Ranger Craig.
  • I got to go on a man overboard drill done by Alcatraz Cruises. It was pretty humorous. And it wasted like an hour of my workday. Pictures are here.
  • I'm looking for a new apartment come April or May. Anyone need a roommate in SF?

My favorite blog post I've ever made

It lives here
I was going over old stuff. It made me laugh. A lot of it did actually. I need to laugh at shit more often and stop agonizing.

Let it ride, Let it roll, Let it go

*Winery pictures are here! It was super. I am tired.

*Alex and Veronica came to Alcatraz a while ago and I got them a private tour. Alex posted about it, with pictures, on his blog.

*Lost Boys II is so awesome. I wish it had Keifer though. But seriously, such trashy goodness.

*When we went out to breakfast today I saw a girl wearing a super cute utility belt. It became my mission today to find one. I ended up ordering this one in black. My only complaint is I wish it was leather, but the awesome leather ones I found were like $150 or only sold in Australia. It's a lot harder to find fashion-y, cute, non-fannypack utility belts on the internet than one would think.

Moments lost though time remains

I was off today. I had some interesting times. I realized something awesome once I got home tonight, and I realized some other awesome things while I was out. I need to sleep soon. I am eating the most delicious cheesecake ever, (it is covered in chocolate!), and drinking beer, and Ryan (Ross' brother) is playing Burnout on the Xbox. Random things are making their ways through my brain. Here are some.

*Garth's blog, babyfight, always reminds me of How is babby formed?

*I am seriously SAD about George Carlin. The world needs more obnoxious assholes, as long as I'm not dating them and they're actually funny and insightful.

*This city amazes and surprises me every fucking day. I've never felt more at home in my life.

*My hair is the absolute perfect color since the dye job this morning

*Six Feet Under still rules the second time around

*I should wear dresses more often.

The End fucktarts.

Thunderdome and other happenings...

I went to the Death Guild Thunderdome party the other night. Probably the best, most fun night I've had since I've been here. Ross fought a dude in the dome, it was awesome. Lots of violence, great music, lots of drunkenness, check some pics here and here because they do a much better job of getting across the happenings than I would just describing them. (Pics are not mine, just some I found on the web)
You can see me in the background of some of the pics at the first link. I was smashed.

Had some other very good times last week. All in all life has been win++. Well, other than my sinus infection. It is not very fun, but I'm a big believer in "powering through it"...ha.
